I have both and I found elona easier. Also you don't have to finish Nightfall to get EGMC.

plus elona has mission exploreable areas which makes it sooooooo much easier anyone who has tried to get a PUG to explore THK will know what i mean lol

only problem with elona is the challenge mission which counts for the title.....otherwise its pretty easy.

I guess I got lucky. To finish mapping THK I got in a PUG, told them I was going to map behind the fort, then went running around back there quickly before they all died off (because they were ALL running outside of the fort to fight). And it was really easy to avoid any mursaat back there. It was a pain getting people in a PUG in Dunes of Despair, however, to bring vamp weapons even if I repeated many many times that a vamp weapon was required.

Elona is much smaller, quicker and easier to map than Tyria.

I have all 3. I guess in terms of easiness:

Easiest: Elona
Hardest: Tyria

Cantha is somewhere in between.

Elona and Tyria both have "hard edges" meaning it easy to see by eye in most occaisions where you haven't been.. Cantha has more fuzzy edges, the only thing making it easier than Tyria is the fact that it's much MUCH smaller.

Tyria, as Iakatz explained, has many tricks. There is a trick in The Wilds whereby you can kill Evennia by placing spirits (Thanks to Sophitia Leafblade for help with that ), also you can Necrotically traverse to a wolf's corpse in The Frost Gate to get onto Rurik's path. You need to do The Great Northern Wall a number of times to explore the top of it and the bits down the side, just off the path you run back on. There is a "hidden" path to the "end of the world" in Talus Chute (on the join between Talus Chute and Ice Caves). Tyria is big and annoying, however it is simple and I followed the general rule that is it looks like you haven't mapped something....you probably haven't!

Good luck with GMC - it's a cool title.

I'm going to disagree and say I found Tyria the easiest to map. Sure, there's a lot of ground to cover, and a few places not so easy to get to, but there's NO NEED AT ALL of wallhugging. Tyria's map is very easy to please. When I hit 100% over there, I still had quite a few places I hadn't fully explored yet.

No wallhugging? Please forgive me for saying so, but I find that an absolutely ridiculous statement. I'm doing Tyria GMC for my 2nd character (finished Cantha and Elona already) and if you don't shove your nose into every nook and crannie then you are going to miss a lot of Tyrian fog. Cantha was much more forgiving and Elona even moreso.

Of course you're going to miss some, that's not the point. What I was saying was, you can afford to miss it. My 100% Tyrian map has huge chunks missing from it and it's still 100%. And Cantha more forgiving? You must be playing a different game.

In my personal experience, all three continents are about equally forgiving. The problem with Tyria is that for most people a lot of the leeway will be lost for the now inaccessible PvP areas that still are on the map. Cantha has the Monastery Overlook that (for foreign characters) is only open every now and then and the Jade Quarry that is notoriously hard to get into but nothing that is completely inaccessible. There's nothing like this in Elona unless you count the Remains of Sahlahja challenge mission, which can be somewhat sucky to explore, but at least is easily accessible. Tyria still has the drawback of being by far the largest of the three.

I found Tyria the hardest myself, but that is probably partially due to the fact that it was my first Cartographer to compelte.

The differences became more pronounced for me the 2nd time around - moreso because I did the chapters backwards this time. Running the edges of Elona was smooth and I hardly had to get any dirt up my nose. Cantha was a little more jagged while running the edges (and though it is the smallest, it has its challenges like the 10k faction quests and the pvp challenges that nobody wants to participate in) and now, back in Tyria for the final round - it's horrible. Stop, start, reverse direction, sit in place while you wait for fog to vanish. It's nasty. I'm at ~95% with only the Fire Islands left to go, according to my difference maps. So Gli, I'm glad you found it easy, but wow, not for me. =)

Cantha took me much much longer to get to 100% than any other continent. It took me hours even locating the microscopic pieces of fog on the map that I needed for my last 0.5%, not to mention the endless searches for just the right square milimeter to stand on to uncover it, and the extreme long time it took me to even get into the Jade Quarry, once.

Tyria was just a leisurely trek through all areas and bang! 100%! I hadn't even been inside the ice imp cave, and I missed a sizeable chunk of the great northern wall. I never even checked any kind of complete map for reference.

Note that I had not uncovered any of the old PvP places in Tyria. (This character started in Cantha.) Also note that I hadn't used any of the bugs that allowed one to map more than one should be able to, which could grant you huge chunks of Cantha.

Wow, when I read that, I get the impression that they made this title considerably easier since I got it. I do have some of the old PvP areas and still had serious problems getting to 100%. I certainly don't have that large chunks of the map missing, like the whole ice imp cave.

On the other hand, in Cantha, I hadn't even been inside the Jade Quarry when I got to 100%. I had the foresight to fully explore the Monastery Overlook when it was first opened, though.

On a side note, it is always easier to get 100% when you start fresh. A character who already has, say, like 90% when you decide you want to go after 100% will have to do almost the same work than someone who starts at zero. He will still have to re-visit every area and hug all the walls, just to uncover all the little spots that he missed the first time. Only it isn't as easy to see where those missing spots are, compared to a completely blank map.

I found Elona the hardest somehow, I had 3 days trying to uncover last 3% (did photoshop trick as well). Spent 3 days re-exploring the areas slowly and finally managed to get it. In Tyria, I got 100% without even exploring Perdition Rock. Cantha being the easiest for me (apart from forming group to do Jade Quarry).

I got the Tyrian title quite early in the lifetime of titles, back when practically no one had it, and everyone was drooling over it.

That's absolutely true. My (Canthan-born) title hunter ran herself to Ascalon after finishing up in Cantha and started mapping Tyria from the start. No trouble whatsoever. It's just a lot of ground to cover.

This is the first I've heard of this little trick. I did all the others, of course, to get my GMC. I can't wait to get home from work tonight to try this one out.

Have Cantha and just finished Tyria two days ago (also got me my Kind of a Big Deal title.)

I didn't think they were difficult so much as time consuming. What was more of a pain though was how many areas in Tyria that could only be accessed during a mission. So if you messed up or died, you had to start all over from scratch, instead of just rezzing and running back to where you left off. In Factions, there are no missions that will end if you don't do something is a specific time period (though there are more missions that will end if a vulnerable NPC dies). This meant less pressure (Boreas Seabed and Eternal Grove were very good examples of this) to map and usually fewer monsters too. Although, in some Cantha maps (Gyala Hatcher for example) you have to explore outside the mission to get everything.

Having said that, I still found Tyria much more forgiving in terms of wall hugging. You can't ignore it because there are so many walls, but even without the access to PVP arenas, my Factions necro only had to uncover about half of the Arid Sea section of the dessert to complete the title (had completely uncovered every where else except small areas of the desert...did all the tricks that still worked too). With Factions, I had everything uncovered except for parts of Fort Aspenwood mission and all of Jade Quarry mission. I was able to get 100% just by clearing what I had left in Fort Aspenwood, and never setting foot in the Jade Quarry mission. That's a much smaller margin of error than in Tyria, though I'm not sure how that works out ratio wise, but I don't think Tyria was that much larger than Cantha.

To answer the OP, it depends. If you are at about the same percentage on both maps, then Elona will be easier. There are no real tricks that I've heard of in Elona (only read the guides, haven't finished there yet myself), the missions are generally available as explorable areas too, a big chunk of map can be done in a wurm, and it's smaller than Tyria. If you've done 70% of Tyria and only 50% of Elona, then you could probably finish Tyria faster.

Just remember to scrape the walls. And check 100% U maps (I used this one: http://www.deuterio.net/showthread.php?t=3693&garpg=1 ) before you leave an area to make sure you got everything. (I put GW in windows mode then line up the 100% and my map and then ALT-TAB to compare.)
